Many people ask what is the difference between Holistic Life Coaching and Counselling?
It’s a good question.
For me and the way that I work there is a lot of overlap between the two. The way I approach it is that they are two different but similar doors people can go through to achieve their personal goals.
Coaching has tended to have a focus on creating what you want to in your life where as people often engage in counselling or therapy to move from an unhappy or stuck place. The ultimate goals are still about improving and enhancing your life.
I started using a lot of coaching techniques in my counselling practice about 5 years ago. These techniques complemented my therapeutic work and helped to enhance the goal of supporting people to get really focussed and clear about the things they wanted to create in their life, and then to action these changes.
I have found that more and more people are coming to me with whom are generally satisfied with their lives but are wanting Coaching type support techniques and tools to enhance it even further.
The way I work as a Life Coach is to negotiate with each client the amount of contact and support that will work best for them. Holistic Life Coaching is an empowering supportive approach to achieve personal goals and fulfil aspirations.
I use a range of holistic skills in my coaching approach as well as drawing on my counselling skills if needed.
